Rishi Panchami 2026: The date and meaning of honouring the seven sages

Rishi Panchami falls on Tuesday, September 15, in the 2026 calendar entry published by Maharashtra's MHADA. The observance centres on gratitude to the Saptarishi, the seven ancient sages honoured in Hindu tradition, and follows Ganesh Chaturthi in the Bhadrapada fortnight.

Why September 15 and 16 both appear in searches

A tithi is a lunar calendar interval; its boundaries need not coincide with midnight. That distinction helps explain why a search can return two neighbouring dates even when a calendar identifies one day for the observance.

In its September 13 explainer, ABP Live reports that this year's Panchami extends from the morning of September 15 into the morning of September 16. It places the observance on September 15, when Panchami is present during the afternoon worship period. The end date of a tithi therefore should not be read, by itself, as the festival date.

The focus is remembrance and gratitude

MHADA describes Rishi Panchami as a traditional fasting observance associated with women paying respect to the seven sages. Its place in the fifth day of Bhadrapada's bright fortnight connects it to the wider seasonal calendar. For readers learning about the occasion, the sage tradition and the expression of gratitude are the clearest starting points.

Check the city before copying a time

A panchang's location setting matters. Drik Panchang's 2026 calendar displays a selected city and identifies its times as local to that location. Readers in Gujarat should select their own city before comparing a puja window with one shared online.

When checking a calendar screenshot, look for three details together: the year, the city and the labelled observance date. Keep the tithi's start and end separate from that date. This makes it easier to understand the September 15–16 discussion without treating every timing shown online as a single timetable for all of India.
